Native Deen

I usually hate rap music, mostly due to the nastiness of it: nearly-naked women shaking their assets, the bad language, drug and violence references... There's very little good in it.

But my sister Sarah pointed me towards a Muslim group called Native Deen. The lyrics are all Islam-related. One of my favorites is "My Faith My Voice", about religious tolerance and the true nature of Islam and Muslims. :)

  1. I saw a documentary a while back about a young female Muslim rapper. I'm not a big fan of rap just because...I don't like it. It's not my kind of music. But she was very good and I don't recall it being about anything bad. Now I wish I could remember her name so I could look her up for you...

  2. Oh, that is pretty neat. I wonder if there are more groups like this...

  3. Yup, there are. Look up 'Outlandish'. Their recent music is less about Islamic references and more about other things but they are a very good group.
That rapper wasn't Missundastood was it?

  4. I don't think so. The girl in the documentary wasn't a hijabi. Of course, it was done a few years ago, so that might have changed. I tried googling muslimah rappers and there are a lot of them!

  5. Assalamu Alaikum, sister! Ramadan Mubarak! My name is Yasmeen and I live in Virginia (USA). I just came across your blog and wanted to say it's really such a lovely blog! I love it! :) I also came across this "Native Deen" post and I just wanted to give you a heads-up that "Native Deen" isn't halal (allowed in Islam). No music/songs/nasheeds are allowed in Islam as Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) never listened to them (except during weddings and Eid); therefore, we shouldn't either!I know it's hard to give up on music/nasheeds as myself miss my nasheeds (I use to listen to Native Deen so much, haha!), but it's something that we must keep away from.

Here's a video clip by Bro. Abu Mussab Wadji Akkari, in which he explains how music is haaram (not allowed in Islam) I highly recommend you watch it. It's really good and I totally agree with him and insha'Allah, i hope you will too:

This is the first part of the lecture out of 11, but it's not as long as it seems! It goes by fast as it's pretty interesting to watch! Hope you enjoy it!

Take Care and May Allah Bless you and your family with good health and faith! Ameen.

    Wassalam,
    Yasmeen
