Test run on the "burqini"

I got my new swimsuit in the mail the other day. It's one of the "Burqinis" from an Australian company called Ahiida. It wasn't cheap, but it's great! Someone complemented me on it almost immediately. Here's a photo of the one I bought:

Here's another pic, this time of the sleeve detail on my favorite abaya.

  1. Do you find that the burkini still clings too much after you've been swimming? I've been looking at them, but haven't bought one yet, because of the expense. I've read that some Muslimah's find they cling too much after they get wet.

I like the pattern on that abaya. Very nice and subtle.

I also like the new user pic. Very colorful. :)

  2. We have a pool at our apartment complex and I was trying to figure out what I would be ok wearing so that I can take my daughter out there. It would be so much easier if I had a private backyard.

I love your blog and love that fact that you feel comfortable wearing niqab even though you aren't muslim! I wear hijab and other headcoverings for prayer and worship, but have never ventured outside in a niqab yet.

  3. Well, it does cling some, but my solution to that is to get out of the water in stages (mid-chest level and up, then hip level, then knee level). It's been quite hot enough here for everything to dry pretty darn quickly, so I just sit on the pool steps and observe the people around me while I wait. Getting a larger size than necessary would probably help with the cling problem, too.

That one is my first abaya. It has the same pattern going all the way down the front in a 2 or 3-inch width. Very simple, but very pretty.

Thanks! I made a run to Ross and found the scarf for $6.99, and the pretty pink lace headband for $2.99. It had a silly lacy flower on the front, but I cut that part off, and was left with utter cuteness!

  4. I know! I live in an apartment complex, too, but I just try to go out later or earlier, before many (or any) people are there.

Thanks so much for the encouraging words! I'm not going to lie and say that wearing niqab is easy. Actually, since I have several things to say on this subject, I think I'll write my next entry on this. I hope that you will check back with me from time to time, and share any hijab tips or good finds.
